Prezcon 2008

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I’m in Virginia, heading for Prezcon, which is starting today in Charlottesville. Getting here was a little challenging due to snow at my transfer point in Toronto, ON. De-icing etc. set us back enough for me to miss the train from Washington D.C. to Charlottesville so I stayed the night in Northern VA with a friend and we’re driving to Prezcon shortly.

I’m looking forward to playing in tournaments, playtesting and developing new games, and having a lot of fun. On Saturday night, I’ll be drawing a name at random from all those who entered in Columbia Games tournaments at Prezcon with a grand prize that will include a copy of every historical blockgame.

Sunday, when the convention ends, I’ll be heading back for D.C. where I will rendezvous with my new adopted daughter, Simonee Eden who will be arriving from Ethiopia that very day. I’m planning to get on the very same plane that she’ll be on! I’m still in awe at the fortuitous timing of her arrival coinciding with my trip to the east coast.

We discuss the history and the future of Columbia Games, current projects, and a variety of other wargame topics.

Flu keeps me away from Prezcon

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

I’m supposed to be in Virginia at Prezcon now… I am instead cooped-up at home recovering from a flu - the kind with a high fever that makes you ache all-over. It is most definitlely contagious. It spread through our family like wildfire - so, even though I am likely past the worst of it, I dare not travel across the country.

No doubt Prezcon will be a success anyway. I was really excited about being there…

Harn Campaign Manager

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

I just fixed a bug that caused shipping to be charged for the downloadable Harn Campaign Manager software. Orders that were placed before this fix have been amended appropriately to remove shipping.

Manic Monday

Monday, January 9th, 2006

A lot is going on today… Perhaps at the end of the day there will be some news about:

EastFront II, WestFront II, and Eurofront II with new preorder pages.

The imminent Harn Campaign Manager Software release.

I’m also working out plans for Prezcon 2006 in Feb. This year’s show is shaping up very well. Columbia Games events are: War of 1812, Liberty, Hammer of the Scots, and Crusader Rex as well as slapshot. Visit prezcon.com

I am looking for a few good men who would like to run an EuroFront II trial run at Prezcon 2006. I need 3 or 4 dedicated players who are interested in at least one full day of gaming. Experience with EuroFront is required - I cannot teach it in the busy atmosphere of Prezcon. Contact me by email at grant@columbiagames.com

Update

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

All the Harnquest: Tashal (with the J6 Atlas maps) are now in the mail.

There have also been a lot of people helping us “clear out” inventory during the sale - which is still running until year’s end.

Tomorrow I’m going to spend some time on the EuroFront II map and expansion, reviewing it and cross-checking it. There are plans afoot to demonstrate and betatest of the new map at three conventions in Victoria, Toronto and Canberra (Australia) during January.

Christmas Update

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

Good news/bad news. Three-quarters of the HarnQuest: Tashal/Atlas Map shipments were mailed yesterday - scrap that thought about Xmas delivery. After 3/4 were printed, the printer crapped out and a visit from the repair technician is now required. The remaining 1/4 will be mailed Tuesday when the repairman arrives (Monday being a holiday). Tashal Part 1 and the Atlas map turned out very nice and I am confident they will be well-received in the Harn community. The map will shortly be available for sale on the website. Tashal will not be sold until part 2 is ready - I am aiming now for mid-January.

In other news, I sent in my check the other day to pay for an exhibit space at WBC 2006. Also Jim Kramer sent in his GM form for Rommel in the Desert. We’re hoping this classic game can make the “century” in 2006. To that end, if you’re a voting BPA member and want to see Rommel played, make sure you vote. www.boardgamers.org.

Or course, coming up even sooner is PrezCon 2006 where there are a number of Columbia Games tournaments including Crusader Rex.

The spanish translation for Crusader Rex rules has been updated to version 1.3.

Merry Christmas everyone. Take care on the roads if you are travelling. We’ll be celebrating this afternoon and feasting at my parents’ house. I’m hungry already…
